Dark Sky Scotland Partnership
Dark Sky Scotland is Scotland's first nationwide programme of astronomy events. It will inspire science education and lifelong learning, encourage careers in science and technology and promote dark sky tourism in rural areas. There will be over 30 astronomy events at venues throughout Scotland up to spring 2008. The events will involve:
- Astronomy workshops for teachers
- Astronomy workshops for tourism and community
- Astronomy activities for families
- Astronomy activities for pupils
The Dark Sky Scotland Partnership
Royal Observatory Edinburgh Visitor Centre is leading the Dark Sky Scotland project, hosting the Dark Sky Scotland Project Officer, building up the events programme and developing the Dark Sky Scotland Team to run events. http://www.roe.ac.uk/vc/
Forestry Commission Scotland (FCS) is providing £10k funding alongside in-kind support including organising local events in or near the national forest estate, as part of the its “Touchwood” programme for Scotland’s Year of Highland Culture in 2007. http://www.touchwood2007.org.uk/
Careers Scotland is providing £25k funding alongside in-kind support including organisation of events for teachers and pupils as part of its Science & Technology Matters programme. http://www.careers-scotland.org.uk/
Glasgow Science Centre has a wealth of expertise in public stargazing and planetarium shows and is playing a leading role in delivering the events http://www.glasgowsciencecentre.org/
Institute of Physics Scotland is a network of teachers and scientists which has provided many of the members of the Dark Sky Scotland Team. http://scotland.iop.org/
Science and Technology Facilities Council has provided £35k funding directly to the project and indirect support through many of the students and scientists involved. http://www.stfc.ac.uk/

European Social Fund is providing funding via Careers Scotland's Science and Technology Matters programme.
