Welcome to Dark Sky Scotland!

Scotland has some of the best areas of dark sky in Europe which offer spectacular views of the stars and planets. Come along to our events, in rural locations, small towns and city parks, to enjoy the night sky and find out how astronomers are delving ever deeper into the wonders of the Universe.

Our programme for 2009 combines activities with community groups in central Scotland, with family events further afield, helping people discover and enjoy the dark skies near where they live. Among other things, the groups will be identifying the world's first Dark Sky Discovery sites, local places that are accessible, safe and great for stargazing!

Our partners in the community programme are the Forestry Commission Scotland and the John Muir Award, with funding from Scottish Natural Heritage.

Dark Sky Scotland is part of the UK Dark Sky Discovery programme.
