Aims of the workshop
This free workshop is for anyone who would like to be inspired to run astronomy activities for tourism, community events and education. Scotland has some of the darkest skies in Western Europe, partly due to large areas of forest and woodland. This workshop is part of a weekend of astronomy activities led by Dark Sky Scotland, a nationwide astronomy programme. It will provide a simple introduction to understanding the night sky and how to enjoy observing it with people of all ages. You will:
- Learn the main types of object that can be observed.
- Discover why the night sky changes.
- Find how to choose observing targets.
- See how to research stories to support observing activities.
- Discuss how to run successful observing activities for communities, schools and visitors.
- Meet local people who can help with these activities.
- Take home a pack of simple observing activities.
